Why do North American pro sports teams relocate to different cties more often than European pro sports teams?

I can think of so many North American examples: SuperSonics to Oklahoma City, Houston Oilers becoming the Tennessee Titans, Montreal Expos becoming the Washington Nationals, and the Hartford Whalers becoming the Carolina Hurricanes.
